Umamade
Uma is an embroidery artist based in the South of France. Originally from Turkey, she's currently working on her new project in the Portuguese countryside near Lisbon.
Uma Labattut specializes in hand embroidery and slow fashion. After working for a fast-fashion brand, she decided in 2017 to dedicate her craft and her art entirely to embroidery and upcycling.
With Uma, embroidery is not just stitching: it’s an art through which she tells stories, that she learned from her mother. She finds inspiration in eco-feminism, mythology, spiritualism, astrology, and goddesses, and then uses it in her embroideries, which all have been researched and hold symbolism.
